Founder & CEO
James (Jim) has been in the Federal IT Services market since 1987 starting as a software engineer for Ford Aerospace then later employed by Digital Equipment Corporation working on various DoD contracts. Jim co-founded RABA Technologies in the early 1990s and later sold the company 2000.
Jim next entered the dot-com market as the CTO of Reverse Auction.com and then CEO of Pricing Dynamics. Later Jim funded, founded, and ran PriceWorks, a profit optimization software product company. In these three companies, Jim managed the enterprise sales staffs, commercial product development groups, business operations and investor relations.
Jim returned to the Federal IT services market in 2004 forming Wells Landers, rising to approximately $15m annual sales in just 18 months. Jim co-founded TVAR Solutions, a Federal Government reseller and exited both companies in 2008. Entering semi-retirement, Jim formed a management consulting firm, Hiller Hamilton, and traveled throughout South East Asia consulting on English education projects, acting as a broker for investment funds for projects in Vietnam and Thailand, and staying close to his roots consulting for a handful of Federal IT services firms in the Washington, D.C. area. Hiller Hamilton clients ranged in size from early stage start-ups to established 200+ person consulting firms serving the Intelligence Community, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense.
In all of Jim's entrepreneurial endeavors, Recruiting has played a major role and Jim has developed outstanding capabilities as an IT and executive recruiter for hard to fill positions.
Transitioning his experience as an entrepreneur, business consultant, recruiter, operations executive, and technology investor, Jim founded the Taveekan fund family in 2013 to leverage his diverse skill sets to help today’s technology entrepreneurs achieve their goals and dreams.
Co-Founder & CTO
Clift has been in the Federal and DoD IT since starting as a hardware and software engineer with GTE Government Systems in 1985on a very large DoD voice processing project. After 8 years at GTE. Clift co-founded Edge Technologies in 1993 with three co-workers (two of which are Taveekan co-founders) to focus on the development of computer network-based mapping and analytic solutions within the Intelligence community as a precursor to current day cyber security capabilities.
Clift served as the Chief Technology Officer at Edge Technologies spending most of his time mapping DoD and CIA customer mission and business needs to developed software capabilities and solutions. Clift charted the technical direction of Edge Technologies into the global commercial telecommunications and business service management products space with world-class network and security management and visualization software products enPortal and AppBoard.
In 2009, Clift and his partners sold the Government Solutions group of Edge Technologies to FGM, Inc., now Novetta of Reston VA, where he stayed until the completion of his earn-out in May 2012. Since his departure from Novetta, Clift has acted in a technical and business advisory role to burgeoning young technology services companies and individuals starting services companies within the Federal and DoD space. In addition, Clift is working as a consultant to Edge technologies in support of business and solutions development around the enPortal and AppBoard products as well as providing future roadmap product guidance.
Director Legal Administration
Fred Levy has over 35 years of experience practicing in all aspects of corporate law. He has vast experience in the M&A field and has represented clients in over 300 mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and similar transactions, both domestically and internationally. Fred has represented both domestic and offshore companies in their financing requirements, in transactions ranging from several hundred thousand to over three billion dollars.
Fred typically represents middle market and emerging growth companies across a wide range of industries including media, manufacturing & distribution, and networking & IT infrastructure, as well as Fortune 100 companies in a variety of commercial endeavors. He guides clients in establishing strategic alliances and in negotiating a wide array of commercial contracts, complex shareholder agreements, and financing arrangements and workouts. Currently, Fred serves as outside general counsel to many of his clients.
Fred leads Brown Rudnick’s Fund and Formation practice. For the past 25 years, Fred has advised clients in the formation, governance and administration of hedge funds and private equity funds. Fred has formed many domestic and non-domestic funds, advising such funds on choice of law and related tax issues.
Fred regularly counsels private company clients on employment matters with its key executives and management teams and leads the Brown Rudnick team in advising such clients on compensation, bonus and severance issues.
Fred received his J.D. degree from the University of Southern California Law Center and his B.S. from Cornell University.
Larry is an accomplished entrepreneur, CEO and COO with extensive experience bringing new technologies and solutions to market, leading government contracting organizations, and monetizing corporate assets. He has over 20 years of experience managing software development, operational support, complex systems design, and high-risk technology programs as well as all facets of corporate management and governance. He is consistently able to anticipate technology market trends and formulate solutions that meet customers’ operational mission objectives. His uncompromising integrity and unwavering customer focus have earned him industry-wide recognition, and he has developed long-standing relationships within the U.S. Government DOD and intelligence communities.
Larry has worked in the Federal IT Services market since 1990, first as a project manager for GTE Government Systems where he managed an engineering team that completed development of a complex network monitoring and management system, which is still in operation today. He co-founded and launched Edge Technologies, Inc. (Edge) in 1995 with a focus on the government and commercial communications, telecommunications, and network security markets and served as President and CEO there until 2009. During his tenure with Edge, Larry leveraged emerging technologies and positioned Edge as an industry leader, winning a patents for Edge enPortal™, the only secure and real-time software platform designed specifically for enterprise management, and the Content Transform Proxy technology (renamed Data Alchemist), a content assurance and cyber defense product. Edge’s other innovations and industry firsts include: N-Vision, the first web-interface to HP’s Openview™; View-on-the-Web, a secure on-line surveillance service which was later sold to WatchMe-Grow; Web-MGI, a joint venture that produced the first on-line transactional database service for the Agricultural industry; and Edge AppBoard™, a data ingestion and visualization tool.
Larry completed the strategic sale of Edge’s government services business to FGM, Inc. in 2009, where he went on to serve as Chief Operating Officer, and then successfully positioned FGM for sale to private-equity backed Novetta Solutions, LLC in 2012. He served as Novetta’s Senior Vice President for Operations until electing to return to his entrepreneurial roots with Taveekan Capital. Larry is a recognized technology and industry leader who has addressed audiences that range from the local Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) to national HP and IBM forum events and international Cyber and Network Management conferences. He has served on numerous technology panels and forums alongside Congressman Tom Davis, Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger, Internet “father” Vinton Cerf, and many others. He has been appointed to the Virginia District Export Council twice by both Secretaries of Commerce Evans and Gutierrez.
Larry holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.B.A. from George Mason University.
